حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ

حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ مُضَرَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هَانِئٍ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ رَبَاحٍ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ يَقُولُ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ لِلنَّاسِ مَا أَبْعَدَ هَدْيَكُمْ مِنْ هَدْيِ نَبِيِّكُمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَّا هُوَ فَأَزْهَدُ النَّاسِ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَأَمَّا أَنْتُمْ فَأَرْغَبُ النَّاسِ فِيهَا

English Translation

ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ said from the pulpit to the people: 'How far your way of life is from the way of your Prophet ﷺ! As for him, he was the most ascetic of people in the worldly life. As for you, you are the most desirous of people for it.'
