حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَن سَعِيدٍ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ عَن أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ عَن مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّ

هِ أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اجْعَلْنِي إِمَامَ قَوْمِي قَالَ اقْتَدِ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ وَاتَّخِذْ مُؤَذِّنًا لَا يَأْخُذُ عَلَى أَذَانِهِ أَجْرًا

English Translation
ʿUthmān ibn Abī al-ʿĀṣ رضي الله عنه said: "O Messenger of Allah, make me the imam of my people." He said: "Be guided by the weakest among them, and appoint a muʾadhdhin who does not take payment for his adhān."
