Hadith #320

English Translation
Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, al-ʿAwwām informed us, ʿAbd al-Jabbār al-Khawlānī narrated to us, who said: A man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ entered the mosque and found Kaʿb storytelling. He said: 'Who is this?' They said: 'Kaʿb is storytelling.' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ saying: "No one delivers stories except a ruler, one appointed to do so, or a pretentious person."' When this reached Kaʿb, he was never seen storytelling again.
