English Translation
Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us, Ayyūb narrated to us, from Abū Qilābah, who said: When ʿUthmān رضي الله عنه was killed, speakers stood up in Īliyāʾ (Jerusalem). The last of them to stand was a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ called Murrah ibn Kaʿb. He said: 'Were it not for a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, I would not have stood. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ mentioned a tribulation' — and I think he said: 'He described it as near.' Ismāʿīl was uncertain. 'Then a man passed by with his head covered, and he said: "This man and his companions will be upon the truth that day." So I went and seized him by the shoulder and turned his face toward the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and said: "This one?" He said: "Yes." And it turned out to be ʿUthmān رضي الله تعالى عنه.'
