English Translation

ʿAffān narrated to us, Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, Qatādah narrated to us, from Shahr ibn Ḥawshab, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ghanm, from ʿAmr ibn Khārijah, who said: I was holding the reins of the she-camel of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ while it was chewing its cud and its saliva was dripping between my shoulders. He said: 'Indeed Allāh عز وجل has given every rightful person his right, and no bequest is permitted for an heir. The child belongs to the bed, and for the adulterer is the stone. And whoever claims descent from other than his father or affiliates himself with other than his masters, upon him is the curse of Allāh, the angels, and all of mankind.' ʿAffān said: Hammām added in this isnād — without mentioning ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ghanm — 'And I was beneath the neck of his she-camel.' He added: 'Neither repentance nor ransom will be accepted from him.' And in Hammām's hadith: the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ addressed them, and he said: 'out of disdain for them.'
