حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ زِرٍّ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَسَّالٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ لَتَضَعُ أَجْنِحَتَهَا لِطَالِبِ الْعِلْمِ رِضًا ب
ِمَا طَلَبَ حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ عَطِيَّةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَسَّالٍ قَالَ بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ يُونُسَ

English Translation
Yūnus narrated to us, Ḥammād — meaning Ibn Salamah — narrated to us, from ʿĀṣim, from Zirr, from Ṣafwān ibn ʿAssāl, that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Indeed the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge, being pleased with what he seeks.' Surayj narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Wāḥid narrated to us, from Abū Rawq ʿAṭiyyah ibn al-Ḥārith, ʿAbdullāh ibn Khalīfah narrated to us, from Ṣafwān ibn ʿAssāl, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ dispatched us in a military expedition — and he mentioned the like of the hadith of Yūnus.
