English Translation

Ismāʿīl narrated to us, Ayyūb narrated to us, from Mujāhid, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā, from Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ came upon me while I was kindling a fire beneath a pot and the lice were falling on my face — or he said: on my eyebrows. He said: 'Are the vermin of your head troubling you?' I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then shave it, and fast three days, or feed six needy persons, or sacrifice a sacrificial animal.' Ayyūb said: I do not know which one he started with. ʿAffān narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, al-Ḥakam informed me, who said: I heard ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā, who said: Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah met me — and he mentioned the hadith.
