English Translation
ʿAbd al-Mutaʿāl ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb narrated to me, Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Umawī narrated to us, al-Mujālid narrated to us, from ʿĀmir who said: The sun was eclipsed one morning until its darkness intensified. al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah stood and led the people in prayer. He stood for the duration of reciting a surah from al-Mathānī, then bowed similarly, then raised his head, then bowed similarly, then raised his head and stood similarly, then bowed the second time similarly. Then the sun cleared and he prostrated. Then he stood for the duration of reciting a surah, then bowed and prostrated. Then he finished and ascended the minbar and said: 'The sun was eclipsed on the day Ibrāhīm, the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and said: 'The sun and moon do not eclipse for the death of anyone. They are but two signs from among the signs of Allah عز وجل. When one of them eclipses, hasten to prayer.' Then he descended and narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in the prayer and began blowing in front of himself, then he extended his hand as if reaching for something. When he finished, he said: 'The Fire was brought near to me until I blew its heat from my face. I saw in it the man with the hooked stick, and the one who made the Baḥīrah, and the woman of Ḥimyar — the woman of the cat.' — Saʿīd ibn Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Umawī narrated to us, he said: my father narrated to me, al-Mujālid narrated to us, from ʿĀmir — a similar report.
