English Translation
Hishām ibn ʿAbd al-Malik narrated to us, ʿUbaydullāh ibn Iyād narrated to us, he said: I heard Iyād narrating from Qabīṣah ibn Burmah, from al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah رضي الله عنه who said: I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys. We traveled until, at the time of the last part of the night, he went off and disappeared from me to relieve himself. Then he came back and called for water for purification. He was wearing a narrow-sleeved Syrian cloak, so he put his hand in from underneath the cloak. He then washed his face and hands, wiped over his head, and wiped over his leather socks. — Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us, Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr narrated to us, from Abū Salamah, from al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah who said: I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys, and whenever he went to relieve himself, he would go far. He went to relieve himself and said: 'O Mughīrah, follow me with water.' Then he mentioned the ḥadīth.
