حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هِلَالٍ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ
وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَوَجَدَ مِنِّي رِيحَ الثُّومِ فَقَالَ مَنْ أَكَلَ الثُّومَ قَالَ فَأَخَذْتُ يَدَهُ فَأَدْخَلْتُهَا فَوَجَدَ صَدْرِي مَعْصُوبًا قَالَ إِنَّ لَكَ عُذْرًا

English Translation
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us, Abū Hilāl narrated to us, from Ḥumayd ibn Hilāl, from Abū Burdah, from al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah رضي الله عنه who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he detected the smell of garlic from me. He said: 'Who ate garlic?' He said: So I took his hand and placed it on my chest, and he found my chest was bandaged. He said: 'You have an excuse.'
