English Translation
Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd and Wakīʿ narrated to us, from Zakariyyā — Wakīʿ said: from ʿĀmir; Yaḥyā said in his ḥadīth: ʿĀmir narrated to me — he said: ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim narrated to us. He said: I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the game caught by the miʿrāḍ (a blunt-ended arrow). He said: 'What you strike with its edge, eat it. And what you strike with its broadside, that is waqīdh (killed by impact — not permissible).' I asked him about game caught by a dog. Wakīʿ said: 'If you release your dog and mention the name of Allah, then eat. Whatever it catches for you and does not eat from, eat it, for its catching is its slaughter. But if you find another dog with your dog and you fear it may have caught it together with your dog and killed it, then do not eat, for you mentioned the name of Allah over your dog but not over the other.'
