English Translation

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Saʿīd ibn Masrūq, who said: al-Shaʿbī narrated to us, he said: I heard ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim رضي الله عنه — and he was our neighbor, or a guest and resident at al-Nahrayn — that he asked the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'I send my dog and find with my dog another dog that has caught [the prey] — I don't know which of them caught it.' He said: 'Don't eat, for you only named [Allah] over your dog and did not name [Him] over the other.' Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from al-Ḥakam, from al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim, from the Prophet ﷺ — similarly.
