حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ عَنْ أَبِي مُنِيبٍ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ قَالَ فِي الطَّاعُونِ فِي آخِرِ خُطْبَةٍ خَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا
رِجْسٌ مِثْلُ السَّيْلِ مَنْ يَنْكُبْهُ أَخْطَأَهُ وَمِثْلُ النَّارِ مَنْ يَنْكُبْهَا أَخْطَأَتْهُ وَمَنْ أَقَامَ أَحْرَقَتْهُ وَآذَتْهُ فَقَالَ شُرَحْبِيلُ ابْنُ حَسَنَةَ إِنَّ هَذَا رَحْمَةُ رَبِّكُمْ وَدَعْوَةُ نَبِيِّكُمْ وَقَبْضُ الصَّالِحِينَ قَبْلَكُمْ

English Translation
Abū Munīb narrated that ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ said regarding the plague, in the last sermon he gave to the people: 'This is a filth, like a flood — whoever avoids it, it passes him by; and like a fire — whoever remains, it burns and harms him.' Shurahbīl ibn Ḥasanah then said: 'This is the mercy of your Lord, the supplication of your Prophet, and the manner of death of the righteous before you.'
