حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ إِنْ لَمْ نَجِدْ الْمَاءَ لَا نُصَلِّي قَالَ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ نَعَمْ إِنْ لَمْ نَجِدْ الْمَاءَ شَهْرًا لَمْ
نُصَلِّ وَلَوْ رَخَّصْتُ لَهُمْ فِي هَذَا كَانَ إِذَا وَجَدَ أَحَدُهُمْ الْبَرْدَ قَالَ هَكَذَا يَعْنِي تَيَمَّمَ وَصَلَّى قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ فَأَيْنَ قَوْلُ عَمَّارٍ لِعُمَرَ قَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَرَ عُمَرَ قَنَعَ بِقَوْلِ عَمَّارٍ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Sulaymān, from Abū Wāʾil, who said: Abū Mūsā said to ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd: 'If we cannot find water, we don't pray?' ʿAbdullāh said: 'Yes. If we cannot find water for a month, we don't pray. If we gave them this concession, whenever one of them found cold [water] he would just do tayammum and pray.' I said to him: 'Then what about ʿAmmār's statement to ʿUmar?' He said: 'I did not see ʿUmar satisfied with ʿAmmār's statement.'
