English Translation

ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, Sufyān informed us, from Jābir, from al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Thābit رضي الله عنه who said: ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I passed by a brother of mine from Banū Qurayẓah who wrote for me comprehensive passages from the Torah. Shall I present them to you?' The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed. ʿAbdullāh — meaning Ibn Thābit — said: I said to him, 'Do you not see the look on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ's face?' ʿUmar said: 'We are pleased with Allah تعالى as Lord, with Islam as religion, and with Muḥammad ﷺ as Messenger.' the Prophet ﷺ was relieved and said: 'By the One in Whose Hand is Muḥammad's soul, if Mūsā appeared among you and you followed him and abandoned me, you would go astray. You are my share of the nations and I am your share of the Prophet ﷺs.'
