English Translation

ʿAffān narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Wārith narrated to us, Ayyūb narrated to us — and he mentioned a hadith — and narrated from Abū Qilābah, from a man, from al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr رضي الله عنه who said: 'The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He would pray two rakʿahs then ask, then pray two rakʿahs then ask, until the sun cleared.' He said: 'People of the Jāhiliyyah used to say — or claim — that the sun and moon are eclipsed because of the death of a great person among the people of the earth. That is not so. They are two creations of Allah. When Allah عز وجل manifests Himself to anything in His creation, it submits to Him.'
