English Translation
Wakīʿ narrated to us: Sufyān narrated to us, from Abū Isḥāq, from al-Barāʾ, who said: The first to come to us from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ were Muṣʿab ibn ʿUmayr and Ibn Umm Maktūm, and they began teaching people the Quran. Then came ʿAmmār, Bilāl, and Saʿd. Then ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb came with twenty people. Then the Prophet ﷺ came, and I never saw the people of Madinah rejoice over anything as much as they rejoiced over the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, to the point that I saw the young girls saying: "This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who has come to us!" He did not arrive until I had learned "Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High" [al-Aʿlā] and similar surahs from the mufaṣṣal.
