English Translation

Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us: al-Shaybānī narrated to us, from Ashʿath ibn Abī al-Shaʿthāʾ, from Muʿāwiyah ibn Suwayd ibn Muqarrin, from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib, who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us with seven things and forbade us from seven. He forbade us from: gold rings, drinking from silver and gold vessels, wearing brocade (dībāj), silk (ḥarīr), istabraq, al-qassī, and riding on red saddle-cloths (mīthara). And he commanded us with seven: visiting the sick, following funeral processions, responding to the sneezer, returning the greeting of peace, fulfilling oaths, helping the oppressed, and accepting invitations.
