حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَخْبَرَنَا دَاوُدُ عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي يَوْمِ نَحْرٍ فَقَالَ لَا يَذْبَحَنَّ أَحَدٌ حَتَّى نُصَلِّيَ فَقَامَ خَالِي فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذَا يَوْمٌ اللَّحْمُ فِيهِ مَكْرُوهٌ وَإِنِّي عَجَّلْتُ وَإِنِّي ذ
َبَحْتُ نَسِيكَتِي لِأُطْعِمَ أَهْلِي وَأَهْلَ دَارِي أَوْ أَهْلِي وَجِيرَانِي فَقَالَ قَدْ فَعَلْتَ فَأَعِدْ ذَبْحًا آخَرَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عِنْدِي عَنَاقُ لَبَنٍ هِيَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ شَاتَيْ لَحْمٍ أَفَأَذْبَحُهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ وَهِيَ خَيْرُ نَسِيكَتِكَ وَلَا تَقْضِي جَذَعَةٌ عَنْ أَحَدٍ بَعْدَكَ

English Translation
Ismāʿīl narrated to us: Dāwūd informed us, from al-Shaʿbī, from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib, who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us on the Day of Sacrifice and said: "No one should slaughter until we have prayed." My maternal uncle stood and said: "O Messenger of Allah, this is a day when meat is needed, and I hastened and slaughtered my sacrifice to feed my family and the people of my household — or my family and neighbors." He said: "You have already done it, so slaughter another one." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have a young she-goat still nursing that is better than two adult sheep for meat. Shall I slaughter it?" He said: "Yes, and it is the best of your sacrifices. But a jadhaʿah shall not suffice for anyone after you."
