حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ { لَا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنْ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ } قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ جَاءَ عَمْرُو بْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَي
ْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَانَ ضَرِيرَ الْبَصَرِ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا تَأْمُرُنِي إِنِّي ضَرِيرُ الْبَصَرِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ } فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ائْتُونِي بِالْكَتِفِ وَالدَّوَاةِ أَوْ اللَّوْحِ وَالدَّوَاةِ

English Translation
Wakīʿ narrated to us: Sufyān narrated to us, from Abū Isḥāq, from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib, who said: "Not equal are those of the believers who sit [at home], other than those with disabilities" [al-Nisāʾ 4:95]. He said: When it was revealed, ʿAmr ibn Umm Maktūm came to the Prophet ﷺ — and he was blind — and said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you command me? I am blind." So Allah عز وجل revealed: "other than those with disabilities." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Bring me the shoulder-blade and inkwell" — or "the tablet and inkwell."
