حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَن عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّفَرِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا بَكْرِ بْنَ أَبِي مُوسَى يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا اسْتَي
ْقَظَ قَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ هَذَا أَوْ نَحْوَ هَذَا الْمَعْنَى وَإِذَا نَامَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَحْيَا وَبِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ

English Translation
Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated from Shuʿbah, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Safar, who said: I heard Abū Bakr ibn Abī Mūsā narrating from al-Barāʾ, that the Prophet ﷺ, when he woke up, would say: 'All praise is due to Allah who gave us life after He caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.' Shuʿbah said: this or something of this meaning. And when he slept, he would say: 'O Allah, in Your name I live and in Your name I die.'
