English Translation

ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated from his father, from al-Jurayrī, from Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Jushamī — Jundub narrated to us — who said: 'A Bedouin came and made his camel kneel, then hobbled it, then prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer, [the Bedouin] went to his camel, untied its hobble, mounted it, then called out: "O Allah, have mercy on me and Muḥammad, and do not include anyone else in our mercy!" the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do you say this one is more astray, or his camel? Did you not hear what he said?" They said: "Yes." He said: "You have restricted [Allah's mercy]. Allah's mercy is vast. Indeed Allah created one hundred mercies. He sent down one mercy by which all creatures show affection to one another — their jinn, their humans, and their animals — and with Him are ninety-nine. Do you say he is more astray, or his camel?"'
