Hadith #498

English Translation

Ṣafwān ibn ʿĪsā narrated to us, Ibn ʿAjlān informed us, from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from ʿUmar ibn al-Ḥakam, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAnamah who said: I saw ʿAmmār ibn Yāsir enter the mosque and pray a brief prayer. When he came out, I went up to him and said: 'O Abū al-Yaqẓān, you have indeed shortened it.' He said: 'Did you see me reduce anything from its essential components?' I said: 'No.' He said: 'I hastened through it to outpace the distraction of Satan. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: A servant prays the prayer and nothing is written for him of it except a tenth, a ninth, an eighth, a seventh, a sixth, a fifth, a quarter, a third, a half.'
