Hadith #159
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرًا يَقُولُ
حِينَ مَاتَ الْمُغِيرَةُ وَاسْتَعْمَلَ قَرَابَتَهُ يَخْطُبُ فَقَامَ جَرِيرٌ فَقَالَ أُوصِيكُمْ بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَنْ تَسْمَعُوا وَتُطِيعُوا حَتَّى يَأْتِيَكُمْ أَمِيرٌ اسْتَغْفِرُوا لِلْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى لَهُ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يُحِبُّ الْعَافِيَةَ أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنِّي أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُبَايِعُهُ بِيَدِي هَذِهِ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ فَاشْتَرَطَ عَلَيَّ النُّصْحَ فَوَرَبِّ هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ لَنَاصِحٌ

جريرا يقول
English Translation
Jarīr said — when al-Mughīrah (ibn Shuʿbah) died and his relative was appointed — he stood up giving a sermon. Jarīr said: 'I counsel you to fear Allah alone, with no partner, and to hear and obey until a (new) leader comes to you.' Then Jarīr said, 'Seek forgiveness for al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah, may Allah تعالى forgive him, for he used to love pardoning.' He continued, 'As for what follows: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to pledge allegiance to him with this hand upon Islam, and he stipulated sincerity upon me. By the Lord of this mosque, I am indeed sincere to all of you.'
