Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ فَقَا
لَ لِرَجُلٍ انْزِلْ فَاجْدَحْ لَنَا وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ اجْدَحْ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ اجْدَحْ فَجَدَحَ فَشَرِبَ فَلَمَّا شَرِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْمَأَ بِيَدِهِ نَحْوَ اللَّيْلِ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ اللَّيْلَ قَدْ أَقْبَلَ مِنْ هَاهُنَا فَقَدْ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā narrated: We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey. He said to a man: 'Dismount and mix a drink for us.' The man said: 'O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'Mix the drink.' The man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the sun!' He said: 'Mix the drink.' So he mixed it and the Prophet ﷺ drank. Then he gestured with his hand toward the night and said: 'When you see the night has come from over here, the fasting person has broken his fast.'
