حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ صَدَقَةٌ قَالَ أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ قَالَ يَعْمَلُ بِيَدِهِ فَيَنْفَعُ نَفْسَهُ وَيَتَصَدَّقُ قَالَ أَفَ
رَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ أَنْ يَفْعَلَ قَالَ يُعِينُ ذَا الْحَاجَةِ الْمَلْهُوفَ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ قَالَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْخَيْرِ أَوْ بِالْعَدْلِ قَالَ أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ أَنْ يَفْعَلَ قَالَ يُمْسِكُ عَنْ الشَّرِّ فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ صَدَقَةٌ

English Translation
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Saʿīd ibn Abī Burdah, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Every Muslim must give charity.' He said: 'What if he cannot find [anything to give]?' He said: 'Let him work with his hands, benefit himself, and give charity.' He said: 'What if he is unable to do that?' He said: 'Let him help the one in need, the distressed.' He said: 'What if he does not do that?' He said: 'Let him enjoin good — or justice.' He said: 'What if he is unable to do that?' He said: 'Let him refrain from evil, for that is charity for him.'
