حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى هُوَ ابْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ أَنَّ أَبَا مُوسَى اسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَى عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَلَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لَهُ فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَ أَلَمْ أَسْمَعْ صَوْتَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ آنِفًا قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ فَاطْلُبُوهُ قَالَ فَطَلَبُوهُ فَدُعِيَ فَقَالَ مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى مَا صَنَعْتَ قَالَ اسْتَأْذَنْتُ ثَلَ
اثًا فَلَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لِي فَرَجَعْتُ كُنَّا نُؤْمَرُ بِهَذَا فَقَالَ لَتَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَيْهِ بِالْبَيِّنَةِ أَوْ لَأَفْعَلَنَّ قَالَ فَأَتَى مَسْجِدًا أَوْ مَجْلِسًا لِلْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالُوا لَا يَشْهَدُ لَكَ إِلَّا أَصْغَرُنَا فَقَامَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيُّ فَشَهِدَ لَهُ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ خَفِيَ هَذَا عَلَيَّ مِنْ أَمْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَلْهَانِي عَنْهُ الصَّفْقُ بِالْأَسْوَاقِ

English Translation
Yaḥyā, who is Ibn Saʿīd, narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from ʿAṭāʾ, from ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr, that Abū Mūsā sought permission to enter upon ʿUmar رضي الله تعالى عنه three times, but was not given permission, so he left. [ʿUmar] said: 'Did I not just hear the voice of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Qays?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Seek him out.' So they sought him and summoned him, and he said: 'What made you do that?' He said: 'I sought permission three times and was not given permission, so I left. We used to be commanded to do this.' He said: 'You must bring proof of this, or I will surely [punish you].' So he went to a mosque — or gathering — of the Anṣār, and they said: 'None will testify for you except the youngest of us.'
