English Translation
Muṣʿab ibn Sallām narrated to us, al-Ajlaḥ narrated to us, from Abū Bakr ibn Abī Mūsā, from his father, who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to Yemen. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, there are drinks there — what should I drink and what should I avoid?' He said: 'What are they?' I said: 'Al-bitʿ and al-mizr.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not know what they were, so he said: 'What is al-bitʿ and what is al-mizr?' I said: 'As for al-bitʿ, it is a drink made from honey, and as for al-mizr, it is a drink made from corn that is cooked until it becomes bitʿ.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not drink any intoxicant.'
