English Translation
ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn ʿAbd al-Majīd al-Thaqafī Abū Muḥammad narrated to us, Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ narrated to us, from Abū ʿUthmān al-Nahdī, from Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on an expedition, and every time we ascended a hill or descended into a valley, we raised our voices with takbīr. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ drew near to us and said: 'O people, be gentle with yourselves, for you are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent. You are calling upon One who is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. The One you call upon is closer to each one of you than the neck of his riding mount. O ʿAbd Allāh ibn Qays, shall I not teach you a phrase from the treasures of Paradise? Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh.'
