English Translation

ʿAffān narrated to us, Ḥammād — meaning Ibn Salamah — narrated to us, ʿĀṣim informed us, from Abū Burdah, from Abū Mūsā, that the Prophet ﷺ used to be guarded by his Companions. He said: I stood up one night and did not find him in his sleeping place, so I was seized by great anxiety. I went looking, and there was Muʿādh who had encountered the same as I did. We heard a sound like the buzzing of a millstone, so we stopped where we were. Then the Prophet ﷺ came from the direction of the sound and said: 'Do you know where I was and what I was doing? A messenger came to me from my Lord عز وجل and gave me the choice between half of my Ummah entering Paradise and intercession. I chose intercession.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah عز وجل to make us among those who receive your intercession.' He said: 'You and whoever dies not associating anything with Allah are in my intercession.'
