حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ أَزْهَرَ يَقُولُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَزَاةَ الْفَتْحِ وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ شَابٌّ يَتَخَلَّلُ النَّاسَ يَسْأَلُ عَنْ مَنْزِلِ خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ فَأُتِيَ بِشَارِبٍ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَضَرَبُوهُ بِمَا فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ ضَرَبَهُ بِنَعْلِهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ ضَرَبَهُ بِعَصًا وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ ضَرَبَهُ بِسَوْطٍ وَحَثَا عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ التُّرَابَ
English Translation
ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmar narrated to us, Usāmah ibn Zayd narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, that he heard ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Azhar رضي الله عنه say: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the expedition of the Conquest, while I was a young lad, making his way through the people asking about the tent of Khālid ibn al-Walīd. A drunkard was brought, and they struck him with whatever was in their hands. Some struck him with their sandal, some with a stick, some with a whip. And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ threw dust upon him.
