حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ كِنَانَةَ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ الْعَدَوِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ أَنَّ جُلَيْبِيبًا كَانَ امْرَأً يَدْخُلُ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ يَمُرُّ بِهِنَّ وَيُلَاعِبُهُنَّ فَقُلْتُ لِامْرَأَتِي لَا يَدْخُلَنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ جُلَيْبِيبٌ فَإِنَّهُ إِنْ دَخَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ لَأَفْعَلَنَّ وَلَأَفْعَلَنَّ قَالَ وَكَانَتْ الْأَنْصَارُ إِذَا كَانَ لِأَحَدِهِمْ أَيِّمٌ لَمْ يُزَوِّجْهَا حَتَّى يَعْلَمَ هَلْ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيهَا حَاجَةٌ أَمْ لَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ زَوِّجْنِي ابْنَتَكَ فَقَالَ نِعِمَّ وَكَرَامَةٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَنُعْمَ عَيْنِي فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ أُرِيدُهَا لِنَفْسِي قَالَ فَلِمَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ لِجُلَيْبِيبٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أُشَاوِرُ أُمَّهَا فَأَتَى أُمَّهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ ابْنَتَكِ فَقَالَتْ نِعِمَّ وَنُعْمَةُ عَيْنِي فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ يَخْطُبُهَا لِنَفْسِهِ إِنَّمَا يَخْطُبُهَا لِجُلَيْبِيبٍ فَقَالَتْ أَجُلَيْبِيبٌ ابْنَهْ أَجُلَيْبِيبٌ ابْنَهْ أَجُلَيْبِيبٌ ابْنَهْ لَا لَعَمْرُ اللَّهِ لَا تُزَوَّجُهُ فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَقُومَ لِيَأْتِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِيُخْبِرَهُ بِمَا قَالَتْ أُمُّهَا قَالَتْ الْجَارِيَةُ مَنْ خَطَبَنِي إِلَيْكُمْ فَأَخْبَرَتْهَا أُمُّهَا فَقَالَتْ أَتَرُدُّونَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمْرَهُ ادْفَعُونِي فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يُضَيِّعْنِي فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُوهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ شَأْنَكَ بِهَا فَزَوَّجَهَا جُلَيْبِيبًا قَالَ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَزْوَةٍ لَهُ قَالَ فَلَمَّا أَفَاءَ اللَّ
هُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ هَلْ تَفْقِدُونَ مِنْ أَحَدٍ قَالُوا نَفْقِدُ فُلَانًا وَنَفْقِدُ فُلَانًا قَالَ انْظُرُوا هَلْ تَفْقِدُونَ مِنْ أَحَدٍ قَالُوا لَا قَالَ لَكِنِّي أَفْقِدُ جُلَيْبِيبًا قَالَ فَاطْلُبُوهُ فِي الْقَتْلَى قَالَ فَطَلَبُوهُ فَوَجَدُوهُ إِلَى جَنْبِ سَبْعَةٍ قَدْ قَتَلَهُمْ ثُمَّ قَتَلُوهُ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَا هُوَ ذَا إِلَى جَنْبِ سَبْعَةٍ قَدْ قَتَلَهُمْ ثُمَّ قَتَلُوهُ فَأَتَاهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَامَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ قَتَلَ سَبْعَةً وَقَتَلُوهُ هَذَا مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ هَذَا مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ وَضَعَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى سَاعِدَيْهِ وَحُفِرَ لَهُ مَا لَهُ سَرِيرٌ إِلَّا سَاعِدَا رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ وَضَعَهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ وَلَمْ يُذْكَرْ أَنَّهُ غَسَّلَهُ قَالَ ثَابِتٌ فَمَا كَانَ فِي الْأَنْصَارِ أَيِّمٌ أَنْفَقَ مِنْهَا وَحَدَّثَ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ثَابِتًا قَالَ هَلْ تَعْلَمْ مَا دَعَا لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ صُبَّ عَلَيْهَا الْخَيْرَ صَبًّا وَلَا تَجْعَلْ عَيْشَهَا كَدًّا كَدًّا قَالَ فَمَا كَانَ فِي الْأَنْصَارِ أَيِّمٌ أَنْفَقَ مِنْهَا قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ مَا حَدَّثَ بِهِ فِي الدُّنْيَا أَحَدٌ إِلَّا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ مَا أَحْسَنَهُ مِنْ حَدِيثٍ

English Translation
ʿAffān narrated to us, Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Thābit, from Kinānah ibn Nuʿaym al-ʿAdawī, from Abū Barzah al-Aslamī, that Julaybib was a man who used to visit women, going among them and joking with them. I said to my wife: Do not let Julaybib enter upon you, for if he enters, I will do such-and-such! He said: The Anṣār, when one of them had an unmarried woman, would not marry her off until they knew whether the Prophet ﷺ had any interest in her or not. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a man of the Anṣār: Marry me your daughter. He said: With honor and pleasure, O Messenger of Allah, and the delight of my eyes! He said: I do not want her for myself. He said: Then for whom, O Messenger of Allah? He said: For Julaybib. So the man went to the girl’s mother and said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is proposing your daughter. She said: With honor and the delight of my eyes! He said: He is not proposing her for himself; rather he is proposing her for Julaybib. She said: Julaybib?! My daughter?! Julaybib?! My daughter?! Julaybib?! No, by the life of Allah, she shall not be married to him! When he was about to go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to tell him what her mother had said, the girl said: Who has proposed for me to you? Her mother told her. She said: Do you reject the command of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Hand me over to him, for he will not ruin me. So her father went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him. He said: It is settled. So he married her to Julaybib. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then went out on an expedition. When Allah granted him victory, he said to his companions: Do you miss anyone? They said: We miss so-and-so and we miss so-and-so. He said: Look — do you miss anyone? They said: No. He said: But I miss Julaybib. Search for him among the dead. They searched and found him beside seven men he had killed before they killed him. They said: O Messenger of Allah, here he is beside seven he killed, then they killed him! the Prophet ﷺ came and stood over him and said: ‘He killed seven and they killed him. He is from me and I am from him. He is from me and I am from him’ — two or three times. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed him on his forearms and a grave was dug for him — he had no bier except the forearms of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then he placed him in his grave — and it was not mentioned that he washed him. Thābit said: There was no unmarried woman among the Anṣār who was more sought after than she was. Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ṭalḥah narrated to Thābit. He said: Do you know what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated for her? He said: ‘O Allah, pour goodness upon her abundantly, and do not make her life one of hardship.’ He said: There was no unmarried woman among the Anṣār more sought after than she was. Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: No one in the world narrated this hadith except Ḥammād ibn Salamah. What a beautiful hadith it is!
