English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us: Sa‘īd narrated to us, from Qatādah, from al-Hasan, that Hayyāj ibn ‘Imrān came to ‘Imrān ibn Husayn and said: My father has vowed that if he catches his runaway slave, he will cut off a limb of his — or cut off his hand. ‘Imrān said: Tell your father to make expiation for his oath and not cut off any limb, for the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to encourage charity in his sermons and forbid mutilation. Then he went to Samurah ibn Jundub, who told him the same.
