English Translation

Bahz and ‘Affān narrated to us with the same meaning. They said: Hammām narrated to us, from Qatādah, from al-Hasan. ‘Affān said: al-Hasan narrated to them, from Hayyāj ibn ‘Imrān al-Burjumī, that a slave of his father ran away. His father vowed to Allāh — blessed and exalted is He — that if he caught him, he would cut off his hand. When he caught him, he sent me to ‘Imrān ibn Husayn. ‘Imrān said: Convey my greetings to your father and tell him that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to encourage charity in his sermons and forbid mutilation. Let him make expiation for his oath and pardon his slave. He also sent me to Samurah, who said: Convey my greetings to your father and tell him that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to encourage charity in his sermons and forbid mutilation. Let him make expiation for his oath and pardon his slave. Abd al-Razzāq narrated to us: Ma‘mar narrated to us, from Qatādah, from al-Hasan, from Hayyāj — and he mentioned the same meaning.
