English Translation
Sufyān narrated to us, from Ibn Jud‘ān, from al-Hasan, from ‘Imrān ibn Husayn, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ on a journey when the verse was revealed: O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the earthquake of the Hour is a terrible thing. A word fell from my father — his riding beast stopped, and the people paused. He said: Do you know what Day that is? They said: Allāh and His Messenger know best. A word fell from my father. He said: O Ādam, send forth the contingent of the Fire. He asked: What is the contingent of the Fire? He said: From every thousand, nine hundred and ninety to the Fire. They wept. He said: Be moderate and do right. You are among the nations only like the small mark on the arm of an ox. I hope that you will be a quarter of the people of Paradise. I hope that you will be a third of the people of Paradise.
