Hadith #372

English Translation

Muḥammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Sa‘īd narrated to us, from Qatādah, from al-Ḥasan, from Jawn ibn Qatādah, from Salamah ibn al-Muḥabbiq, that the Prophet ﷺ of Allāh ﷺ came upon a waterskin on the day of Ḥunayn. He asked for water from it, and there was a woman beside it who said: ‘It is from a dead animal.’ He said: ‘Ask her — has it not been tanned?’ She said: ‘Yes.’ So he took from it for his need, and said: ‘The purification of a hide is its tanning.’”
