English Translation

Affān narrated to us, Abū ‘Awānah narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Malik ibn ‘Umayr narrated to us, from Ḥuṣayn ibn Abī al-Ḥurr, from Samurah ibn Jundub, who said: I entered upon the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, and he called for a cupper. He came to him with horns (cups) and applied them to him. Affān said on one occasion: with a horn. Then he scarified him with a blade. A Bedouin of Banū Fazārah — one of Banū Jadhīmah — entered, and when he saw him being cupped, having no familiarity with cupping and not recognizing it, he said: ‘What is this, O Messenger of Allāh? Why do you let this person cut your skin?’ He said: ‘This is cupping.’ He said: ‘And what is cupping?’ He said: ‘It is one of the best things people treat themselves with.’”
