Hadith #509

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَمُرَةَ بْنَ جُنْدُبٍ يَقُولُ إِنَّهُ لَيَمْنَعُنِي أَنْ أَتَكَلَّمَ بِكَثِيرٍ مِمَّا كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ هَاهُنَا مَنْ هُوَ أَكْثَرُ مِنِّي وَكُنْتُ لَيْلَتَئِذٍ غُلَامًا وَإِنِّي كُنْتُ لَأَحْفَظُ مَا أَسْمَعُ مِنْهُ صَلَّيْتُ وَرَاءَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَصَلَّى عَلَى أُمِّ كَعْبٍ مَاتَتْ وَهِيَ نُفَسَاءُ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِلصَّلَاةِ عَلَيْهَا وَسَطَهَا
English Translation
‘Abd al-Ṣamad narrated to us, my father narrated to us, Ḥusayn narrated to us, Ibn Buraydah narrated to us, who said he heard Samurah ibn Jundub say: What prevents me from narrating many of the things I used to hear from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is that there are here those who have heard more than I have. I was a young boy at that time, yet I used to memorize what I heard from him. I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he prayed the funeral prayer over Umm Ka‘b, who had died in her postpartum period (nifās). the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood for the prayer over her at her middle.
