English Translation
It was narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān al-Thaqafī from a one-eyed man of Thaqīf — Qatādah said: “He was spoken well of [i.e., praised as a man of good character], and his name was Zuhayr ibn ʿUthmān” — that the Prophet ﷺ said: “The wedding feast (walīmah) on the first day is a right (haqq), on the second day it is a recognized custom (maʿrūf), and on the third day it is showing off (sumʿah) and ostentation (riyāʼ).”
