English Translation
It was narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān al-Thaqafī from a one-eyed man of Thaqīf — Qatādah said: “He was said to be a man of good character (maʿrūf) — if his name is not Zuhayr ibn ʿUthmān then I do not know what his name is” — that the Prophet ﷺ said: “The wedding feast (walīmah) on the first day is a right, the second is a recognized custom (maʿrūf), and the third day is showing off (sumʿah) and ostentation (riyāʼ).”
