Hadith #600

English Translation

It was narrated from Ayyūb who said: Abū Qilābah narrated this ḥadīth to me, then said to me: “Would you like [to meet] the one who told it to me?” He directed me to him and I came to him, and he said: A relative of mine called Anas ibn Mālik narrated to me, saying: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding camels belonging to a neighbor of mine that had been seized. I arrived while he was eating and he invited me to his food. I said: “I am fasting.” He said: “Come closer” — or he said: “Come here — I will inform you about that. Indeed Allah tabāraka wa-taʿala has waived from the traveler fasting and half the prayer, and from the pregnant woman and the nursing mother.” [Anas ibn Mālik said: After that he was always overcome with regret, saying: “Alas, why did I not eat from the food of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he invited me to it?”] [A parallel chain via ʿAbd al-Ṣamad → Abū Hilāl → ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sawādah al-Qushayri → Anas ibn Mālik (one of Banū Kaʿb, of the tribe Banū Qushayr):] He said: The cavalry of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raided us, so I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I found him eating and he said to me: “Come eat.” I said: “I am fasting.” And he mentioned the ḥadīth.
