Hadith #71

English Translation

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, he said: Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Ziyād ibn ʿIlāqah who said: A man from my people narrated to me — Shuʿbah said: I used to remember his name — he said: We were at the door of ʿUthmān رضي الله عنه, waiting for permission to enter. I heard Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī saying: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘The destruction of my ummah will be by stabbing and plague.’ We said: O Messenger of Allah, we know stabbing, but what is the plague? He said: ‘The pricking of your enemies from among the jinn, and in each there is martyrdom.’ Ziyād said: I was not satisfied with his statement, so I asked the chief of the tribe — and he was among them — and he said: He spoke the truth; Abū Mūsā narrated it to us. Yaḥyā ibn Abī Bukayr narrated to us, he said: Abū Bakr al-Nahshalī narrated to us, he said: Ziyād ibn ʿIlāqah narrated to us, from Usāmah ibn Sharīk who said: We went out in a group of over ten from Banū Thaʿlabah, and there was Abū Mūsā narrating from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who said: ‘O Allah, make the destruction of my ummah by the plague.’ Then he mentioned the hadith.
