Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ
قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَدَحَ رَجُلٌ رَجُلًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَطَعْتَ ظَهْرَهُ إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ مَادِحًا صَاحِبَهُ لَا مَحَالَةَ فَلْيَقُلْ أَحْسَبُهُ وَاللَّهُ حَسِيبُهُ وَلَا أَعْذِرُ عَلَى اللَّهِ أَحَدًا أَحْسَبُهُ كَذَا وَكَذَا إِنْ كَانَ يَعْلَمُ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُ

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Bakra (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'We were with the Prophet ﷺ and a man praised another man. The Prophet ﷺ said: "You have broken his back. If one of you must praise his companion, let him say: I think him to be such — and Allah is his Reckoner, and I do not commend anyone before Allah — I think him to be such and such."'
