English Translation

It was narrated from Qabisa ibn al-Mukhariq (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'I was burdened with the payment of blood money and came to the Prophet ﷺ asking his help. He said: "Stay until the zakat comes to us, and we will pay it for you or help you." Then he said: "Asking is only lawful for three: a man who has taken on blood money, so he asks until it is paid then stops; a man struck by a calamity that has consumed his wealth, so he asks until he has a basic sufficiency, then stops; and a man afflicted by destitution, so he asks until he has a basic sufficiency, then stops. Anything beyond that is unlawful, O Qabisa — its earner eats it unlawfully."'
