حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ عَنْ رِدْفِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ رِدْفِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَان
َ عَلَى حِمَارٍ فَعَثَرَ فَقَالَ الَّذِي خَلْفَهُ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَقَالَ لَا تَقُلْ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَإِنَّكَ إِذَا قُلْتَ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ تَعَاظَمَ وَقَالَ بِعِزَّتِي صَرَعْتُكَ وَإِذَا قُلْتَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَصَاغَرَ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ مِثْلَ ذُبَابٍ

English Translation
It was narrated from the riding companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that when the donkey stumbled, he said: 'May the devil perish.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not say that, for if you say it, the devil grows and swells until he becomes like a house. Instead say: Bismillah, for if you say it, the devil shrinks until he becomes like a fly.'
