حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ حُضَيْنٍ أَبِي سَاسَانَ عَنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ بْنِ قُنْفُذٍ قَالَ عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ ابْنُ عُمَيْرِ ب
ْنِ جُدْعَانَ أَنَّهُ سَلَّمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ وُضُوئِهِ قَالَ إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَمْنَعْنِي أَنْ أَرُدَّ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا أَنِّي كَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى إِلَّا عَلَى طَهَارَةٍ

English Translation
It was narrated from al-Muhajir ibn Qunfudh (may Allah be pleased with him) that he greeted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was performing ablution, and the Messenger did not return the greeting. When he finished his ablution, he said: 'Nothing prevented me from returning your greeting except that I disliked mentioning Allah while not in a state of purity.'
