Hadith #119
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرُّؤَاسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ بْنِ سُلَيْطٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ لَمَّا خَطَبَ عَلِيٌّ فَاطِمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْ
هُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهُ لَا بُدَّ لِلْعُرْسِ مِنْ وَلِيمَةٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ عَلَيَّ كَبْشٌ وَقَالَ فُلَانٌ عَلَيَّ كَذَا وَكَذَا مِنْ ذُرَةٍ

English Translation
It was narrated from Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when 'Ali proposed to Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with them both), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'A wedding must have a walimah.' Sa'd said: 'I will provide a ram,' and another man said: 'I will provide such and such amount of barley.'
