English Translation

It was narrated from Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ participated in the campaign of the Conquest, and went out walking toward the graves. When he reached the nearest one, he sat beside it as if speaking to a person sitting there, weeping. 'Umar ibn al-Khattab came toward him and said: 'What makes you weep — may Allah make me a ransom for you?' He said: 'I asked my Lord, the Almighty, to permit me to visit the grave of Muhammad's mother. He permitted me. I then asked Him to permit me to seek forgiveness for her, but He refused. I had forbidden you from three things: from keeping the meat of sacrificial animals for more than three days — now eat what you wish. From visiting graves — whoever wishes to visit them may do so...'
