Hadith #29

حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دُكَيْنٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي غَنِيَّةَ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ قَالَ غَزَوْتُ مَعَ عَلِيٍّ الْيَمَنَ فَرَأَيْتُ مِنْهُ جَفْوَةً فَلَمَّا قَدِمْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَكَرْتُ
عَلِيًّا فَتَنَقَّصْتُهُ فَرَأَيْتُ وَجْهَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَغَيَّرُ فَقَالَ يَا بُرَيْدَةُ أَلَسْتُ أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ قُلْتُ بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ

English Translation
It was narrated from Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'I participated in a campaign with 'Ali in Yemen and I found some harshness from him. When I came back to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I mentioned 'Ali and spoke ill of him. I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ change, and he said: "O Buraidah, am I not more worthy of the believers than themselves?" I said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Whoever has me as his master, 'Ali is also his master."'
