Hadith #530
Arabic Text
سَمِعْتُهُ وَحْدِي حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ
كُلَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي جِنَازَةِ رَجُلٍ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ مَعَ أَبِي فَجَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى حُفْرَةِ الْقَبْرِ فَجَعَلَ يُوصِي الْحَافِرَ وَيَقُولُ أَوْسِعْ مِنْ قِبَلِ الرَّأْسِ وَأَوْسِعْ مِنْ قِبَلِ الرِّجْلَيْنِ لَرُبَّ عَذْقٍ لَهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ

English Translation
It was narrated from a man from the Ansar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for the funeral of a man from the Ansar, and I was a young boy with my father. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat at the edge of the grave and began instructing the digger, saying: "Make it wider from the head side and wider from the feet side. Perhaps he has a cluster of palm fruit in Paradise."'
